where can i find new build house magazines with plenty of different design houses to choose from mainly traditional. i have been to whsmiths but they dont have many examples and the ones i have found on web so far are the same. i am going to build a new house and need to choose design. many thanks.

Use Google image search, I wanted to look at fireplaces and got to see about 100 000 doing that.
Just get the search string right!

Another book well worth a read is "HouseBuilders Bible" by Mark Brinkley. Version we have is 5th edition - it may have been updated again by now.

I found lots of designs in the catalogues of timber frame manufacturers. Not that I wanted a timber frame house.

I sorted out six designs I liked and six that I didn't and gave them to my architect. He produced a design to suit my location (oriented for sun etc) which I thought better than any.

I built the design (with some small modifications) and moved in a year ago. :D
