Hi giles,

one other thing - be sure that it is indeed a stream and not a drainage ditch (the legal presumption does not extend to manmade waterways).

Thanks - I might well do that.

Locals who've lived here all their lives say the riverbank used to be managed by the residents on twice yearly "boon days", so that could be a clue too.

As I say, not looking to gain any land or profit from this at all - just find it quite interesting.
