Is there anything i can do about this?

Postby PhatJ » Tue Apr 11, 2017 10:26 am

Hi Everyone

Just tidying up my garden for the summer and couldn't help but get a bit peeved at the shadow over my lawn and its only 12.00 midday.

Is there anything i can do about this (pic attached) ?

Hi PhatJ,

assuming that's not your fence, my advice would be to either accept what you've bought and not get peeved, or else decide that the degree to which what you've bought doesn't suit your needs/desires is such that it's worth moving house.

Kind regards, Mac

Couldn't have put it better myself Mac

Unless you want to buy all the land around where you live, you have to accept that each neighbour has the right to use all their land as they wish. I note that you have chosen to put a large trampoline in your garden so that your children jump up and look over into other people's gardens. This annoys many people and the answer is often to put up a large fence....your neighbours may have put the fence there as a direct result of the annoyance caused by the trampoline....I know I would have!

. Your situation is an example of each choosing to use their land as they wish and consequently both annoying each other.

if i had kids jumping up and down at a neighbours i sure would have installed tallest fence allowed and some even taller hedging too
people need to think a out the annoyance their kids behaviour causes

its just like going to a supermarket and thinking it needed renaning as "playground" with young kids chasing ea h other round the aisles at speed
not thinking about the age or injuries to anyone they knock ovef

No.

That one word response sums up just how silly this posting was.

Every fence that is in any garden will cast a shadow depending on where the sun is shining from.

In the early morning the back fence on my property casts a shadow, by mid-day it is the side fence and in the evening it is the front fence.

In any small garden such as the one in the first photo in this posting, there will always be some shadow.
To ask what one can do about that is just ridiculous.

One could always reorder the natural laws of the universe and force the sun to rise in the West and set in the East I suppose.

Bit of a bother though, considering.

As well as the trampoline there is also a raised seating area at the end of the garden. If I was your neighbour I would find this very irritating and would want to put up a higher fence to gain some privacy.

Mind you, is that a retaining wall? So your garden lower than your neighbours?

Fell and poison the root of the Ash tree before it has a chance of doing real damage to the wall.

To give a sense of perspective to what you are asking, have a look over whatever fences you own to the left of the photo and see how your downhill neighbour is affected by them.

If you wait until the middle of the summer, the sun will be higher in the sky and the shadow won't be so big. It will probably take you until them to tidy up that lot.

Instructions say only use autumn and winter
but faced with 3ft diameter stump of undetermined variety of tree
and shoots coming up from all round sides need to kill the blighter they cant afford stump grinding
what do they do
the stump is effectively about 12 trees all bound together because whenever one arm was cut off another appeared from the base and joined up with the previous one have drilled holes all round edges of each of the 12 circles and treated with roundup inc spraying the new shoots appearing all around the edges of the stump

A photo might help, otherwise continue with what you are doing, it's likely to need more than one application to be effective.

It's not advisable to mix herbicides.
