Can I force my neighbour to repair/replace his fence?

The fence at the bottom of our garden is falling down. The neighbour who owns it does not care because it is hidden behind his shed. We have offered to replace the fence and split the cost. He has refused.

How can we force him to do something?

The fence is not only unsightly but it is becoming dangerous - rotting with nails sticking out.

Nails sticking out obviously pose a danger but unless your neighbours deeds require him to maintain a fence theres little you can do unless he has dogs that roam through into your property

Your best bet would be to put in chainlink fencing or to find a source of free pallets that match and with a little carpentry plus a few posts and some stain or creosot you would be surprised how easy and cheap it is to make a fence ..............you get the good side he gets the horrible side

Plant shrubs etc in front and in a short time you will neither see it or care
