Almost always, yes.................drilling holes in houses is a necessary evil to achieve a desired result, when using a timber wallplate you can choose which brick/joint you wish to use and pre-drill the wallplate to suit. Not all concrete slotted posts come with a pre-made hole, those that do will never line up with the right brick/joint.
