Neighbours opposite reversing onto my drive

Neighbours opposite reversing onto my drive

Postby WildFlower » Sat Sep 05, 2015 1:05 pm

Hi,

When reversing out of their drive, the new neighbours opposite me are coming onto mine. I never do this as it's easy to back out and I don't use theirs. Do they have a right to do this?

Quite a few views but no replies - is this a 'specialist' area?!

Excuse me?

I think Span is trying to say that it's not something that generally upsets people.

You could always put in a gate.

Probably not, but before you get too hung up on rights, etc., you need to take a balanced view of the whole situation. Are you adversely affected by it, what is the frequency of it? You can erect gates, bollards or chains on posts, all on your land and at your expense which will likely cause you more inconvenience than their worth.

If you're determined to proceed, it's likely to have a better outcome if you talk to the neighbour on their own land, rather than wait for the neighbour to be in a vehicle on your land.

Isn't it? They're using my drive, making grooves in my gravel. They don't have the decency to acknowledge me but it's ok for them to use my drive rather than learn to reverse and even have some common courtesy?

I could always put in a gate?? Yes, because I'm loaded and not struggling one bit.

I really don't wish to get 'hung up on rights' - but it is my drive! They ignored my attempts at friendliness but assumed they could just use my drive. It's a gravel drive - cheaply done because I don't have hundreds to spend, so what I do have I would like to be respected if that's not too much to ask!! But, apparently,I should just let these ignorant people do exactly as they want because ' that's life'. Thanks for that.

Well, thanks for the feedback. I do wonder though if you had some rude people who refused your attempts at friendliness but just went ahead and used your drive, churning your gravel up - how you would feel. I can't afford gates - I'm struggling to cope in every way and really don't need this crap. I hate ignorance. - respect goes a long way. Maybe they should learn some.

It would be nice if everyone respected other people and their property, but sometimes people don't.
If you are seriously aggravated and stressed by this minor trespass on your property then you can fence it off to prevent the trespass. If you can't afford that, then that's your choice but that is possibly the best long term solution to the issue.
You could start by asking them not to do it...as has been suggested.
What no one here can do for you is change the attitude of your neighbours and make them more considerate, so there is no point getting annoyed here.
From your replies it seems that you may have come here seeking responses that 'throw the full force of the law' at this but it's not the sort of issue that requires a sledgehammer approach.

I came here seeking a 'sledgehammer' approach?' No, I didn't. I certainly didn't expect some hippy dippy censored that happened earlier. But yes, I see I have no rights at all. Start by asking them not to do it? Unless I have a gate made. (Are you all rich or something??? You just so casually drop that in like it's nothing!! I'm struggling to live!! Ah, so I guess because I'm struggling to live, that means I have to just put up with any old crap that's thrown at me!) I guess no one here would have a problem with this at all so it's my 'personal' stuff. Sadly, I can't afford a gate or whatever so I will just have to put up with it and pay for the upkeep. Thanks for the input.

Didn't feel the need to reply to this minor issue but thought it might help.....obviously mistaken.

Yes you have rights, the same rights as everyone else..to fence off your land to prevent trespass.
