Re: Cut down the tree against our will
All you can do is enlist the help of the councils tree officer he might be tempted to slap TPOs on the trees
I'm interested in this because I recently contacted our council to try and get a TPO put on a beautiful tree which I heard was going to be felled. it was felled withi...

Re: Please recommend fast growing trees
How much space is there? What would it be replacing? Who does the land belong to?
I would be planting it on my own land. It wouldn't be replacing anything on my land but a horse chestnut was the tree felled outside my property. I actually cried when I saw it come down. Tha...

Please recommend fast growing trees

A beautiful tree has been felled just outside our garden. It has left a yawning, horrible space and we are sorry for the birds and wildlife as well as ourselves as we have enjoyed it for over 25 years. We want to plant a tree there and possibly one further along our garden to replace it but we need ...

Recommend a garden design site

Can anybody recommend a garden design site? By that I mean one where I can design it and see what it would look like. I can't find one - I have tried. Thanks.

I hope you're right Victor! This isn't really like any hedge I've seen around a field though (or which a farmer would cut) It was incredibly thick and dense. I have not seen through it for the 20 years I've lived here but now I can. I guess at least 8-10ft thick and probably 20ft high. It didn't blo...

Destruction of very old hedge

Have just been watching a lovely old thick hedge being destroyed. It runs between a private house and a church yard. It seems that nobody is sure who the hedge belongs to and the vicar has got a couple of men to trim it right back. The woman who lives in the house has also been out and asked them to...
Hello Plant some holly that is already grown out of it's juvenile stage horses find spikey holly leaves un palateable, an electric fence is not always a good idea unless the horses owner is agreeable, just imagine if you did foolishly follow that advice without consulting the owner...

Yes, I think the council would be a good idea too. It is after all an offence to drop litter so maybe if a council official took a wander down there at school closing time and saw for himself he could get the police involved too.

It's no good talking about these fines if they are not imposed.

Definitely ring the school. They may just make an announcement in assembly about not leaving litter or they may send a few down the road to clear up. Min you that's probably against Health & Safety rules now! I detest litter. I have been to a college tonight and there were bottles and crisp p...

Interesting ...... I live on an unadopted lane and we maintain the bulk of it, because we have the largest frontage. I am thinking about the sewers because we sometimes have oil tankers delivering to the house past us. They churn the bank up and make big grooves in the lane and the person who they a...

I agree with Andrew on this one. If you've always lived next to a field with horses and then suddenly you have floodlit cricket, trampolines and kids running about that is some change! Yes, they could have said something directly but they chose to involve the council which is their choice I guess. W...
