As Mac says, you need to stop focussing on your loss of view as there is no right in law to a view.
Hi,

I agree, you do not have a right to a view. Maybe if it was defined as "loss of amenity" ..... ?

I believe British Waterways must be consulted on all Planning matters within a specified distance of their water. I don't know how that affects Permitted Development, but I do know somebody in Ynysmeudwy (Hermit's Island) had problems when he tried to tidy the bottom of his garden, which ended at the Swansea Canal.

Fishing? BW charge £750 per year for the sole rights to fish from a short stretch of the Brecon Canal towpath. Mind you, there are some convincing sized carp, thereabouts. They will soon need a "bigger towpath". :D

PS,

When you come to sell, get hold of CANAL BOAT, and/or similar magazines. There are estate agents who specialise in waterside properties. Do you have mooring rights?

British Waterways no longer exists, the charity which controls canals is the Canal & River Trust

Hi Mac,

Point taken! It doesn't flow off my tongue like British Waterways did.

There's this on Google, but I don't know if Permitted Development applies.

https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/speciali ... plications

If a canal is a highway, or whatever, does the 1 metre high fence rule apply?
