Hi IdefixUK,

The ownership is indicated by an inward (towards your land) letter T. To be sure there should also be a reference in the wording of the title to this letter T.

the law has it that any symbols on the plan are meaningless unless referenced in the wording of the deed.

kind regards, Mac

Kitchen extension was already built when we moved in the house, and there land ain’t really big enough to house a car it would be better if they could built a garage then I wouldn’t see there car, what about noise as I sleep in the back bedroom
I would of thought there would of been some sort of rule of how close a car can be to my home
this has got to be a wind up?! what a moaner!

A garden fence can be 6ft tall so a shed of 6ft is not normally something you can do anything about

how much of his land are you suggesting he should sacrifice as a buffer solely for your benefit?

Landowners can use every inch of the land they own as they like within the constraints of planning restrictions. You and your neighbour both have this right equally.

Your back door must be close to his land. If you wanted space between your back door and a neighbours land, this property was probably not a good idea for you.

right up to the fence
1. The neighbour cannot fully maintain the fence or shed if it is right up against the fence. Not something you can do about but some leverage.
2. Are there any restrictions on distance in your deeds? mine has a clause that all sheds etc must be 1m away from the boundary.

hi jayjay

sorry you have not had the response you hoped for, but i dont think there is anything legal you can do about the shed, if a fence can be 6ft then a free standing wooden structure can be. I know some posters can be a little direct in their delivery at times (direct posters dont be mad at me) but they are accurate and knowledgeable in their advice.

i have experienced the joy of living in back to back terraces, where the smallest act can have a big impact. trying to not look directly at the neighbour opposite washing up, who you can see clear as day a few feet away. I also know that often these houses are not lived in by people who have the option of buying a semi with a large garden, else given the choice we would already live in one.
it does make me laugh on this forum when someone is having problems with horse riders going through the paddock on the west wing,it really is a different world. unless you have lived in a small house with a tiny yard you will not understand the impact something like a big shed can have on an already claustrophobic space. my advice would be put some planters with bamboo or something in to at least screen the shed and make your outlook better.
kind regards

No we can’t find anything in the deeds that would be helpful to us Yes it is a little claustrophobic as it seems so close to our property, if we could afford to move we would I just feel this neighbor thinks he can do what he likes the house as always had low fence I think this was for light in the kitchen but there is nothing in the deeds for right to light

Hi jayjay1,

I just feel this neighbor thinks he can do what he likes

so long as what he likes is legal I’m not sure what the problem is?

I’ve lived in a terrace with no front garden and a tiny yard round the back so I do empathise,

but he’s doing nothing wrong, so I’m not going to say he is just to make you feel in the right...

all the best, Mac
