invasive plants growing on dead tree

Post by marteez » Sat Jun 30, 2012 2:58 pm

My neighbour planted several fast growing varieties of plants several years ago up a purpose built wig wim type bamboo frame just to the side of our boundary fence. We think because during the construction of our conservatory it was discovered his old oil tank was leaking oil into the ground on the boundary which resulted in us having to report him to Environmental Health because he refused to do anything about it when we pointed the problem out to him. anyway these climbing plants which include the common bramble now grow onto the conservatory roof and it is a constant battle to trim them back year after year as he lets them grow wild and never prunes back. In addition he has an old blown down apple tee which has been engulfed by the climbing plants forming a thick tangle of vegetation which must be 20Ft high which overhangs the boundary beyond the conservatory . I trim back to the boundary several times a year but the height just continues to increase year after year . Can anything be done regarding the height of this botanical invasion ? It also houses what must be dozens of birds nests which results in our washing line and patio furniture being bombarded by droppings day after day.Any advice appreciated.

Next time you have to trim, give the cut edge a quick brush with gyclophosphate.

Glyphosate is a foliar application so apply before you cut the leaves off

There is nothing that you can do beyond what you are already doing.
