Also. I live in what was once an isolated terrace of 5 farm workers cottages. They have had other houses added to them over the last 2 centuries. The water for the cottages comes from one source. The cottages were all in the ownership of the farmer and the fact that they all shared a mains pipe was irrelevant at the time. They had outside loos and kitchens on the other side of a yard. These have now gone but still appear on the current OS map. Each of the cottages are now in separate ownership but we still share a mains water pipe.

So if the OP’s house and the other that shares the outside loos were in the same ownership at one time it is entirely possible that they would share a mains water supply.
