Robinia Frisia problem HELP
Robinia Frisia problem HELP
My beautiful Yellow Robinia Frisia about 40ft high is suffering from something
Last year quite a few lower branches were brittle and leafless
Now this year theres only very sparse leaf opening on upper branches
lots of dead lower ones and signs of new shoots on the trunk
theres no signs of bark problems on the trunk
I have dry sandy soil and wonder if combined years of drought plus a neighbours large tree no far away is the cause
I wonder if drastically reducing the height would allow the new shoots on the trunk to grow or whether the tree is simply terminal

Could be wood rot at the roots or a fungal disease? Sorry, can't be of any more help than that.

I have already lost a lovely Gleditzia

You most definitely don't want to lose such lovely mature trees, it doesn't bare thinking about.

We have been lucky so far with most of our trees and shrubs, except a bit of wind damage when it was very cold.
Frisia is a variety some varieties are naturally occurring, some are the result of man made hybridisation.
Naturally occurring varieties are part of evolution. Some make it others don’t.
If it’s a man made hybridisation that fails it’s just natures way of running a red pen though our efforts.
2/10 must try harder.
